Despite being struck down by food poisoning (do NOT eat chicken ceasar salad from Hogs Breath Cafe!) I managed to make it to Melbourne with the others and I am so, so glad I did! We checked into the hostel (hostel virgins all except myself, of course), dropped our bags off and went straight to the aquarium and to work out the tram system- easier once you've practiced a little. We had a mixed crew over four days, ranging from two to six people galavanting about throughout Melbourne to see the sights and do a little exploring. I saw a lot but I definitely get the feeling more is on the horizon for Melbourne and I. Our to-do list:
Melbourne Aquarium Melbourne Zoo Asquith Races Crown Casino, Southbank ACDC Lane- Corey's choice but definitely worth seeing! Storyville- cocktails and nibbles MoVida bakery- cronuts! A REVOLUTION! Mr Miyagi's- dinner- salmon taco puh-leese Jungle Boy- hidden speak easy bar, had to walk through a fish and chip shop refrigerator to get in! Holey-moley- putt-putt golf- great on a Wednesday or Thursday!

Airlie Beach was, as expected, very beautiful but notably tourist-y with multiple hostels and hotels in the strip that makes up the main street. Loads of food joints, some good, some not so great!
With so much sunshine, there wasn't much to do other than swim, drink, eat and explore a little. Just what I needed, a week of total relaxation and of meeting new people- hostels are fantastic for that! I've added some recommendations (see my TripAdvisor for those I would definitely NOT recommend...) Accomodation Magnums Airlie Beach
Breakfast Garuma Cafe
Drinks La Tabella Trattoria
Dinner Lovely India
For your entertainment GBR from the sky- Air Whitsundays- a must do! I little pricey but, hey, it is why you're so far up north, right?! (reviewed) Shed Bar- next door, part of Nomads hostel- theme nights, decently priced drinks, popular Ra Natural Heath- next door and uupstairs to Garuma (reviewed) Airlie Beach Lagoon- the main part of Airlie, very clean, tidy and plenty of shade or sun with food and drinks nearby Beach Book Boutique- right by the lagoon, 2nd hand book shop (and new books!) with a return and exchange policy |
